この業界に入って約20年。私の疑問は相変わらず解決しません。

プレースホルダーとしての「以下」

英文のセンテンスが不完全なままコロンで終了し、その後に箇条書きが続いていて、続けて読むと完全なセンテンスになるという文章はよく見かけますが、その形を活かしたまま日本語でも再現するのは難しいですね。SDLのサイトでの例を拾ってみました。

 このページでは、コロンで終わる不完全な英語センテンスを日本語の完全なセンテンスにするために「以下」を使うことにしたようですが、もう少し言葉を補って自然な文章にしたほうがよいと思います。

こうなった理由として考えられるのは、メモリの再利用性です。原文にない語句を補うと別の文脈で再利用しにくくなるということは、以前はよく言われていましたが、今はコンテキストマッチ機能があるのでその心配はないはずです。
